How a two-week time card is counted
14 rows, a subtotal per week
Week 1 starts on the date you choose in Week starting; week 2 is the next seven days. Each day is clock out minus clock in, minus the unpaid break. A shift that runs past midnight counts on the day it started, so a Sunday-night shift at the end of week 1 stays in week 1. If your workweek boundary falls inside a shift, your payroll may split those hours between the weeks; this card does not.
Overtime is counted per week
The Overtime after … h / week limit is applied to week 1 and to week 2 separately. A long week is not cancelled out by a short one: 48:10 in week 1 and 32:00 in week 2 is 80:10 for the period, but 8:10 of it is above a 40-hour weekly limit. An optional daily limit applies to every day of both weeks.
Biweekly is not semi-monthly
Biweekly means every two weeks: 14 days, 26 pay periods in a 52-week year, and each period holds exactly two workweeks. Semi-monthly means twice a month (for example the 1st–15th and the 16th to month end): 24 periods of 13 to 16 days that do not line up with weeks. This card covers 14 days; for a semi-monthly period, total the weeks separately.
Worked example: the sample pay period
Overtime pay is calculated from exact minutes (8 hours 10 minutes × $30 = $245.00). Treating the period as one 80-hour block would find only 10 minutes of overtime and $1,605.00 of pay, $80.00 less.
For U.S. employers covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Department of Labor’s regulations say each workweek stands alone: hours may not be averaged over two or more weeks, and that holds even for employees paid biweekly (29 CFR 778.104). A workweek is a fixed, regularly recurring period of seven consecutive 24-hour periods and need not start on Monday (29 CFR 778.105). Both sections were read on eCFR on 21 October 2026 (last amended 1 December 2016). State law, other countries, union contracts and special pay plans can set different rules; the calculator only applies the limits you enter, so check the rules that apply to you before running payroll.

Questions
Is overtime calculated on 80 hours in a biweekly pay period?
Not on this card. The weekly limit you set is applied to each week of the pay period separately, so 50 hours in one week and 30 in the next gives 10 hours above a 40-hour limit even though the period totals 80. For employers covered by the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act this matches the rule that each workweek stands alone (29 CFR 778.104). If your employer uses a different arrangement, set the limits to match it and check the result.
Can I add a daily overtime limit as well?
Yes. Fill in and after … h / day. Hours above the daily limit are counted first on every day of both weeks, then any remaining hours above the weekly limit, week by week.
Which week does a shift that crosses midnight count in?
The week of the day it started. A Sunday 22:00 to Monday 06:15 shift entered on the last Sunday of week 1 counts in week 1. If your payroll splits shifts at the workweek boundary, adjust those hours by hand.
How many hours is a full-time biweekly pay period?
At 40 hours a week, two weeks are 80 hours. At 37.5 hours a week they are 75 hours. Set Overtime after to your weekly limit; the card shows each week’s regular and overtime hours and the total for the period.
Is the two-week card saved?
Yes, in this browser only, under the same storage as the weekly calculator, and it is never uploaded. Switching Pay period back to 1 week hides week 2 without deleting it; switch to 2 weeks again to see it. Clear card empties both weeks and can be undone.
What does the CSV contain for two weeks?
The same columns as the weekly file with 14 day lines, then the period totals and pay, then a pay-period line and the hours, regular hours and hours above the limit for week 1 and week 2.
